Special Enrollment Period

Acronym: SEP

Refers to a period outside the Open Enrollment Period or Annual Election Period when an eligible person can enroll in a health plan or make changes to an existing health plan. A person is generally eligible to participate in a special enrollment period if certain qualifying life events occur, such as losing certain health coverage, moving, getting married, having a baby, or adopting a child.
