Partial Capitation

Partial capitation, also known as shared risk, is when the agreement defines what services are covered under capitation and what services are retained by the payer. Partial capitation can be primary care, professional, specialist, hospitalization, and ancillary services. Arrangements can be a mixture of these services. Medical and outpatient services are typically capitated and hospitalizations are retained by the health plan or payer.
