Long Term Service and Supports

Acronym: LTSS

Means health care and supportive services provided to individuals of all ages with functional limitations or chronic illnesses who require assistance with routine daily activities such as bathing, dressing, preparing meals, and administering medications. a. Care provided in the home, in community-based settings, or in facilities, such as nursing homes; b. Care for older adults and people with disabilities who need support because of age; physical, cognitive, developmental, or chronic health conditions; or other functional limitations that restrict their abilities to care for themselves; and c. A wide range of services to help people live more independently by assisting with personal and health care needs and activities of daily living, such as: i. Eating; ii. Taking baths; iii. Managing medication; iv. Grooming; v. Walking; vi. Getting up and down from a seated position; vii. Using the toilet; viii. Cooking; ix. Driving; x. Getting dressed; or xi. Managing money. Some people need LTSS to help them with activities of daily living. This help is called LTSS and can be provided in a facility or in the community. LTSS include a range of home and community based services such as In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS), Community-Based Adult Services (CBAS), and Multipurpose Senior Services Program (MSSP), in addition to care in nursing facility services when needed.
