An electronic medical record is a record of patient health maintained by the patient’s physician as a record of that physician’s care of the patient. This record is often confused with an [electronic health record](https://www.healthinsurance.org/glossary/electronic-medical-record/), which is a more comprehensive, long-term aggregate of a patient’s health information and may be a record of a variety of providers and types of medical care.
