Base Period

The period of time used to establish the baseline medical expense of the Provider Organization for its Attributed Population. The projected and adjusted Base Period’s medical expense is then compared to the corresponding medical expense of the ACO incurred during the Measurement Period to determine savings derived from ACO activity. The Base Period is reset for each subsequent Measurement Periods. The term “Target”, as defined below, is used to refer to the projected medical expense, and the term “Measurement”, as defined below, is used to refer to the Measurement Period’s medical expense.
