Alternative Submission Methodology

are used to report additional information that is not accommodated in the 837, such as additional diagnosis codes that were relevant to the service provided but could not be reported due to the limitations in the Version 5010 837P. The users of the ASM files are working to eliminate the need for them. One fix will be the Version 7030 837P transaction that is expected to accommodate up to 24 diagnosis codes.
