Acknowledgments
Acronym: EDI
Receivers of claim or encounter transactions can return acknowledgment transactions that indicate the level of processing completed, e.g., accepted, rejected, or other. For example, if an ASC X12 Interchange containing claim or encounter information is received and processed, an acknowledgment transaction, TA1, can be generated and returned to the sender of the claim or encounter payload indicating if the processing of the Interchange level was successful or not. The next level of the payload, the ASC X12 Functional Group, can be acknowledged using the 999 transaction. This level can also indicate if the processing was successful or not in the receiver’s system.
